Hello Coaches and other Staff
My name is Cedric De'Von Coward and I am extremely interested in being a student athlete at the collegiate level. For as long as I can remember I have loved the game of Basketball. I have always been athletic starting in organized sports at the age of 3 years old. i think I get that athleticism from my Grandfather who is an Olympic Gold medalist. I have played Basketball, Football, Soccer, Track and Field and Baseball throughout my life. I have always been a team player and team leader. In 2017, I decided that I wanted to focus on the sport that I am most passionate about which is Basketball. Since making that decision I have been at every level of play in my high school career. I played Freshman and JV and held the position of Captain of each team, and was honored with the Most Valuable Player Award from my JV team. I wanted to start high school on Varsity and I would have been a welcomed member of the team however, my parents would not allow me to play at that level as they thought that I needed to concentrate on my academics and I was not yet mature enough to play at that level. Looking back at that I appreciate my parents making that decision because I was able to concentrate on my academics. I have been an honor roll student my entire academic career and taking AP classes in order to prepare me for the college level. In the 2019-20 season I will be one of the Captains of our Varsity Basketball Team and I look forward to our season and the achievements that we will make as a team.
Some of my goals as I prepare to close my High school career is to play high level basketball and to have my team win Regional, Valley and State Championships. I am confident that we have the skills and ability to meet those goals, I have heard on many occasion that I have a visionary attitude when it comes to my teams and the sports I play. i have a moderately high Basketball IQ and am proud of myself when I hear that my play is similar to those players like, Kevin Durant, Lebron James, Kawhi Leonard or Draymond Green. I love and appreciate the level of play of those men. My first choice would be to play at a Div. I level school as that is highest level of play and I believe that I have the work ethic to play at that level. I am however, not closed to the idea of playing at Div. II or III because ultimately I am in college to elevate myself both in athletics and academically. As for my college goals I am focused on attaining a degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Teaching .
What I believe I could bring to any team is my high work ethics both on and off the Court. I am confident without being cocky in my abilities. My ability to be team player and team leader and that I am very coachable and passionate for the game. The standard that I have for myself as a student, player and man are and will always be very high and I strive to meet the goals I set for myself and the goals that others set before me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I hope I get the chance to meet and discuss further all of the ways I can be an integral part of your program.
