My name is Nikolas Griset and I am the starting Center for the Los Alamitos HS basketball team. My love for the game of basketball began at the age of 10 when I joined my local city recreational team. I continued to play recreationally until the age of 12 when I joined my first club basketball team. I began my high school basketball career in 9th grade on freshmen year and was chosen to join the varsity team my sophomore year.
The attributes I add to the team consists of communication, physicality, and footwork. I take pride in my communication and enjoy working effectively with my teammates in a game setting. These skills also translate off the court, where I have great relationships with both my teammates and coaches. I am well-liked by my peers, lead by example and communicate effectively. I value making an authentic connection with my coaches and appreciate an open conversation regarding my play on the court. I always aim to better my game, so I welcome feedback and tough love which fuels me to improve.
Another area I would like to highlight is my academic record. I have worked hard throughout high school to maintain a 3.5 academic GPA. After 9th grade, I realized that in order to make my dreams come true, I would need to apply myself more in the classroom. I began to establish better relationships with my teachers, even during distance learning. I made efforts to attend optional office hours and tutoring sessions with teachers, and the result of this effort paid off; I was able to maintain my grades and I made strong connections with teachers. I feel strongly that personal relationships are an important part of both my academic and athletic experience.
I aspire to play basketball at the collegiate level while pursuing a degree in business, finance, or real estate development. I look forward to growing my skills as a basketball player and being a contributor to my team and in the long term, my community.
