Life is a journey. Sometimes things go as planned. Others times it’s the opposite. My Father always tells me, control what you can control, don’t worry about what you can’t control. Good advice right? So this is me, taking control of my future, my destiny, my place in this great big world. Let me catch you up on my journey so far. I am the younger of two children in our family. My parents are loving, caring and hardworking people. We live in California where the weather is seemingly always nice. As a result of the weather I was allowed to play outside as often as possible. It was during those outdoor activities that I fell in love with basketball. My days are filled with school, homework and basketball. Always in that order as my Mother would have it no other way. It seemed like the first time I picked up a ball I was hooked. I worked hard to hone my skills. I have an athlete’s body and that gave me a head start. I pushed myself to improve my game and I truly understand that nothing comes easy. I have worked hard to get where I am. Where I am specifically is on the precipice of choosing the best college and the best course for my life. My Mother has instilled in me a desire to educate myself. She always says knowledge is power. I have had to balance my passion for sports with my yearning for knowledge. It hasn’t always been easy. Most kids my age can’t seem to be a balance their lives as well as I can. I guess I can thank my parents for that. I am very proud that I am 7th in my class in G.P.A as well as first team all-league in varsity basketball as a junior. Like I said, nothing comes easy so I push myself to be the best student in my class. I use the same determination and effort as I use in basketball in the classroom. I am dedicated student. I have found the balance. While I’m not perfect by any stretch of the imagination I do possess the inner discipline to do very well both in school and in the sport I wish to pursue during my college years. Let’s be clear about one thing. My Mom was right. School comes first, and then comes basketball. If you give me a chance to attend your college as well as play basketball on your team you will acquire someone who can and will excel at both. I believe my teachers and my coaches will soon understand that I am that special athlete who does not need to be pushed or overly motivated. I have an inner desire. I push myself but always appreciate those who are aiding me and giving me guidance. I am driven, genuine and enthusiastic. I would love an opportunity to meet with you and discuss my journey. Maybe I can also impact your journey thru life? Control what you can control. Use the power of knowledge to better myself. I am choosing you as a potential college where I will gain the control of my future by using the knowledge I will obtain from my studies at your school. I would love to be given the opportunity to make your school a big part of my life’s journey.
