My name is Oliver Hamilton III. I am a student athlete at Hayward High School in California. I play point guard and shooting guard. I have aspirations to attend a University in Southern California such as UCLA, USC or Pepperdine. I feel I would be a good fit for these schools because of my strong work ethic, my desire to succeed & my willingness to learn.
In addition to wanting to earn a great education, I want to play for a strong basketball program. One that challenges me to excel on and off the court. I am always in the gym working on my craft & perfecting my shot. I eat, sleep and sweat basketball, but I also understand the importance of putting school/academics first.
I understand that the colleges I desire to attend require high GPA's, which has been my goal to maintain. My Freshman and Sophomore year were very difficult for me. At that time, I wasn't happy with who I was, so it effected my school work. I recall meeting with my College Counselor to discuss my grades & NCAA checklist for College. It wasn't until that moment, in my Junior year, that something clicked. I began to take my work & grades seriously, and not just focus on basketball.
In January, my mother & I moved to the Bay Area from St. Louis, MO. Since this move, I've matured in many ways. I have found myself and who I want to become. My focus level is at its highest point of my life right now and I am very happy with who I am. I finished my junior year with a 3.5 GPA. I owed it to myself & parents, to show that I truly matured and began to turn any negative thoughts or doubts into positive ones.
I've never felt any better as a student athlete. This last year of high school will be my best year yet. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and I'm looking forward to my upcoming basketball season. I plan to average at least 20 points per game & will assist in leading my team by example. I take pride in showing my teammates that with a strong work ethic, determination & focus, comes great reward.
