Richard Opris '25 Recruiting Profile

My name is Richard Opris, currently in Grade 12 at IMG Academy in the USA. I was born in 2007 in Toronto Canada, and have played basketball since I was 10 years old. Over the years, I have played in many notable tournaments and leagues like UAA, Next Pro, Made Hoops, Hoop Group, Marquee Hoops, Gym Rat, and more during AAU. Before joining IMG Academy in 2023, I played at the prep level in Canada. I re-classed up a year because I came from Canada.

Most recently, I was selected for the U18 Romanian national basketball team training camp in 2024. 

Known as an accomplished student-athlete, I also qualified twice for OFSAA (Provincials in Ontario) for cross country and track and field. Through my athletic endeavours, I have earned several gold and silver medals, MVP awards twice in a row, and special recognition at my previous high school at HTS Canada as the first ever to qualify and represent the school at OFSAA for 2 different sports in one year. 

I am also a dedicated student-athlete with excellent track record in academics as well. Academically, I currently this semester have a 97% average, a 4.4 GPA, and I have won academic excellence awards every year in high school so far.  

Beyond my academic and athletic pursuits, I have played two instruments for several years before high school, piano and drums, as well as volunteered for several events through school. I am determined, hard working, adaptable, a team player with a positive mindset and a true passion for basketball.
