Personal Statement
My name is Romulo Delgado, but everyone calls me Rome. A long time ago, I set my goal to go to college and play Basketball, both at the highest level. As you can see, I am working on it, along with the unconditional support and love of my family. I come from a Mexican Background and truthfully it was weird when I decided to pick up a basketball instead of a soccer ball. Despite this, my family supported me and now I have become a highly regarded student, and a talented, driven, and disciplined athlete due to the teachings of my heritage and family. Since I was 7 years old, I fell in love with the game and it has been the gateway for many, opportunities, life experience and lifelong friendships. Basketball has taught me, among other things, the foundations of self-confidence, determination, and commitment as well as to be competitive. I feel that I truly understand what it takes to win for a team. I am comfortable with the moment. I stay in the zone. I am always ready to get the ball and make the right play. When the time comes, I’m ready for whoever and whatever obstacle I must get through.
I am ready to begin the next phase of my journey, for that reason, I hope to be considered to be part of a respected Basketball program and a prestigious Institution. The path may be enduring and hard at times, but my passion will make it an unforgettable experience. I am grateful for all the things I have been able to learn from the people and culture, but the time has come to further my knowledge into the college scene. My passion for the game, a strong attitude of improvement, both on and off the court, and my exceptional academic record would make me an asset to a program and a school.
I fondly recall one of my first games as a 7 year old and I made the winning basket with seconds on the clock. It is easily one of my most surreal memories and I know for a fact that more of these moments are in store for me at the college level.
