Amani Smith '15 Recruiting Profile

Hello,

My name is Amani Smith and I am now a Senior, Class of 2015, 5'7 Point Guard at J.W Mitchell High School in New Port Richey, Florida. 2013-2014 was my first year at this school, and my first year on a varsity team. My previous school, High School For Health Professions & Human Services, is located in New York, New York. I was on Junior Varsity both my freshman and sophomore years. My sophomore year I was named Team Captain and Team MVP(2012-2013). My GPA as of today is a 3.477 and I have completed one AP class, which is AP English and Composition, and currently enrolled in five Honors classes (English 4, Anatomy & Physiology, American Government, Economics, Digital Design 2). 

I have been playing basketball since I was about 8 years old after I stopped playing baseball. I did not start taking basketball as serious as I do today until I was about 11. I was always the smallest player on the court but I always played as if I was the biggest. Sometimes my size limits me from certain things but it only encourages me to work harder and look past my size.

 My dream school to attend would be Florida State University, but if I get the opportunity with other schools, I would be willing to explore the possibilities. Ideally, I would like to attend a school with not only a good athletic program but also a great academic set up. I plan on going to medical school to pursue a career in Sports Medicine or Obstetrics/Gynecology. Attending a Division 1 university would be a dream come true but I am also willing to attend a good Division 2 and Division 3 university. 

Basketball is something I really love and take very seriously.  During the summer and off-season I constantly work on improving my shooting and dribbling abilities. My main goal is to become a well-rounded Point Guard. A Point Guard who can not only pass the ball and set up his teammates but someone who can be an offensive threat when it is time. I know this can and will be achieved simply because I know I am a hard worker and if I want something really bad I will work extra hard. I want coaches to know me as a great basketball player with amazing work ethics on and off the court, and teachers and coaches to view me as a scholar in the classroom.
