My name is Michael Foster and I am a student athlete. Many people define a student athlete as a participant in an organized competitive sport sponsored by the educational institution in which he or she is enrolled. Personally I feel that there is more to the title. I believe a student athlete is a non slacking, determined individual who stays focused and works hard in keeping a well balance between academics and athletics. This definition perfectly describes my work ethics, and along with my great leadership skills, help shape me into the rising young leader am today.
I attend Grace Christian Academy in Fayetteville, Georgia. I have been going there for 7 years now and this year I am in the 11th grade. This past school year I finished with a 3.93 GPA, but this year I plan to work hard to maintain a 4.0 GPA or higher. At school, I play Varsity basketball and soccer. I have received many awards from playing sports here, but one award I cherish the most is the Character Award, which I have received for the past 3 years in a row. I have also played AAU basketball for the past 5 years.
Some extracurricular activities I participate in at school are the National Honor Society and the National Beta Club. Outside of school I enjoy volunteering and community service. For 6 years I have volunteered at the New Horizons Senior Center in Vine city and for Meals on Wheels Atlanta. I have also volunteered as a basketball and soccer intramural coach for the elementary grades at my school for 3 years. I completed the Model Atlanta Regional Commission's Teen Leadership Program. Also, I am currently a volunteer staff member at VOX Teen Communications, a teen newspaper out of Atlanta, Georgia.
I am an active member of the Boy Scouts of America in BSA Troop 136 in Jonesboro, and have been honored to have reached the highest rank of Eagle Scout last summer. For the past 2 years I have volunteered as staff for the Atlanta Area Council’s boy scouts NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training Program). This year I served as part of their volunteer staff leadership team. In my troop I have served in various leadership positions one of which is the Senior Patrol Leader.
I am now preparing for college. My aspirations are to play college basketball while pursuing a major in communications and journalism. I also want to continue being a servant leader, being active in my community while making a difference in the lives of others.
