I hope to earn a basketball scholarship to play college basketball. My goal is to keep playing the game I love and use it as long as it allows me to. I am quickly improving my game with the help of the former College of Lake County basketball coach, Joe Paul. My hard work and dedication are my best skills and I feel they will help any team win. Hopefully, I can find a coach who believes in what I do and gives me the opportunity to further my basketball career. Below are the beliefs that I live by and hopefully they match up with those of your own and your program.
My Core Beliefs
-
I believe in sacrificing for the dreams that I have. I spend more than 6 hours a day training to improve on my weaknesses and build on my strength through on court drills, games, and weightlifting. I hope to help lead my school to a winning record for the first time in more than a decade and hopefully get a basketball scholarship in the process. Although these goals are quite lofty, I feel that I have the heart, character, drive, and skills to achieve them.
-
I believe in hard work on and off of the court. This can be seen in my play style as well as my dedication to weightlifting, conditioning, and diet.
-
As a point guard, I believe in playing an all-inclusive game that enables me, as well as my teammates to play their best on the floor. My personal goal in games is to involve each and every one of my teammates on the offensive end in order to keep them playing at their peak.
-
I believe in playing great team basketball. I am willing to sacrifice my body by taking charges, diving on the floor, and boxing out against bigger bodies. I always try to include teammates in the game and hopefully boost their confidence when it is needed. I feel that good team play is essential in helping any team perform at their best.
-
I believe in being a student of the game. By watching great point guards, I can learn the things that make them great and use them to improve my game. I try to play the game intelligently and there is no better way to do that than by studying the games of; Bob Cousy, Pistol Pete Maravich, John Stockton, Oscar Robertson, Jason Kidd, and Steve Nash. I always try to take something from their style and use it to improve mine.
-
I believe in controlling the game. I try to control the tempo and play the game at whatever pace will leave the other team most vulnerable. I always look to exploit matchups while I’m on the floor.
-
I believe in having a good relationship with my coaches. I always want to ask my coaches questions and talk thru the game plan in order to execute it most efficiently. I always try to play the game according to what my coach’s objectives are.
-
I believe in selflessness on the court. My only goal on the floor is to win. I don’t care if I’m scoring, passing, setting screens, or locking my man down, my only goal is to win.
-
I believe in defense. I take pride in playing tough, physical defense and outworking my opponents. I take the most pride in aggravating opponent, taking charges, and creating havoc on the opponent’s offense. I do admit that for years I have spent too much time worrying about bettering my defense and not enough time utilizing my offensive ability and hope to play a more balanced game this upcoming year.
-
I believe in leadership. Coaches usually say that I lead by example. Being an introvert, I use to shy away from those positions of leadership. Now I am vocal, as well. I try to lead in any way I can. I try to learn about my teammates so I know who to push, who to encourage, and who to guide. I always try to teach younger players skills that I have acquired, show some guys how to better exploit match-ups, and help show guys where to be on the floor. I feel that my leadership skills could improve, but I will always try to help my team in any way possible.
