I became interested in basketball when I was five years old when I started playing basketball for the first time at the Salvation Army. This influenced who I am and to get better as a player. There was one older kid that took me under his wing and made sure that I ran every drill with the older kids, including making three-point shots on the court and full court drills. This guy became my first mentor in the game and was a constant figure at the gym until the program ended. I became even more interested when I was watching Kyrie Irving play on the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics. I’ve had to overcome many obstacles. One example is time management, since I am a member of a male mentoring program that keeps me busy, I also strive to keep my grades up while trying to get better every day. In the classroom, I also assist anyone who asks for assistance or doesn't comprehend the material.
I’ve learned while playing basketball that I can be coachable and can be a leader. I uplift my teammates and help them realize that we need to fight and get the win. I also help to set up scoring opportunities for both them and me to win the game. I also help my teammates whenever they are feeling nervous, don't have confidence in shooting, or driving to the paint. I would say that I'm funny and like to make people laugh when needed. I like to make people feel welcomed and to not be judged or look at themselves in a bad way.
My academic goal for high school is to get better in all areas academically. For example, I really want to get even better at math since it's the subject that I struggle most in. For college, I want to become a well-rounded student keeping up my grades to play for the basketball team or another sports like team. There are several goals that I wish to reach after college, these include a career in sports medicine and journalism are a few of my future objectives. What makes me a good fit for their team is that I enjoy involving my teammates. I'm a leader who enjoys supporting and encouraging my teammates during important moments, which sets me apart from other recruits in sports.
