I love basketbal. And I work hard at it. After a Sophomore Summer league game, our Varsity coach gave me a great compliment. He said that I am “more likely to attack and fix my weaknesses then to hide from them like some other kids”. I was very glad he noticed that about me! I have learned the true value of hard work and its ability to change any player. I see my path to College basketball paved by hard work. One example would be: In the second game of my freshman season I was benched on the B team and did not play. I worked hard and asked my coaches what to do better. A week later I made my way into the starting lineup and averaged a double/double for that month. I was then called up to the A team for the remainder of the season.
The pandemic has been challenging for all high school athletes but I feel that I have made the most out of it. I have unfortunately not been able to play for a team during the pandemic but I have been working just as hard. I have been improving on all of my fundamentals such as ball handling, post moves, rebounding and shooting. I have added a whole new dimension to my game and I now feel much more comfortable playing on the perimeter as well as playing in the paint. I hope that we can return to playing safely some time soon. But until then I will keep working as if the season is right around the corner!
My academic goal through high school and college is to have and maintain all As and Bs and make the honor roll/ dean’s list every semester while taking a challenging course load.
