I became interested in the sport of basketball my 6th grade year of middle school. I would often go to the basketball courts outside and play with friends that were at the same skill level as me. During that time the only way to play on the court was that you had to play with the older kids. Their skill level was superior to that of mine. As time went on my fundamentals and IQ in basketball got exponentially better. After school I started going to the indoor courts at our neighborhood gyms. This is where my talents were formed with the help of my friend Kory. One thing that I wanted to work on was my strength and shooting. When I first started playing I had alright handles, and could finish at the rim, but i just could not shoot.
The experience that i’ve gained over my highschool career will help build a strong foundation for college. I have been able to manage three things on my plate, school, basketball and work. Even with some of the ups and downs I overcame all of the challenges of time management. One of the challenges I had to overcome, was when I got cut from the high school basketball team my freshman year. I was devastated, but in order to better myself I knew that I just had to train extremely hard in order to get where I want to be. In order to do this I had to be true to myself and admit that some of the extracurricular activities were distracting me from my main goal. I started going to the gym more often after school and my friend Kory that made the team would often train with me as well. Later that year I went to my local AAU tryouts, and made the team. I was very proud of myself, because I seen my hard work pay off. Keeping up this habit of going to the gym is what i’ve been trying to keep up, so that I keep expanding my game. I am trying to graduate high school therefore I could go on to study sports management and play basketball at a higher level.
