Connor Feucht Pro...Update... I have recently been accepted in the Edge Prep School for Athletes in Calgary Alberta! We play in the National Preparatory Assoc. league in Canada and The Grind Session in the U.S. We also play the division 4A high schools in Calgary Alberta. This level of play will certainly help my game and hopefully take me to higher levels of basketball.
Being in a gifted school means that everybody around me is super competitive in school. For a while I thought that I wasn’t as smart as other people there, but when I started grade 10 I started to realize that I could be just as competitive as the others. My older sister is a role model to me because she is always super kind to people, and she is very smart.
I became interested in the sport of basketball when I was very young, I was trying out a bunch of different sports and basketball stood out more than any of the other sports that I had tried.
I have learned a lot about myself throughout the time that I’ve spent playing the sport. A couple of the main things that I have learned are resilience, discipline, loyalty, and how you get out whatever you put in. All of these things can directly relate to on the court, as well as off the court, which is why I think that they are so important.
My Academic goal for high school is to get the best grades that I can, preferably averaging a 90% or a 3.7 GPA. In college, I expect to be able to be at around the same for my grades.
In spring of 2019, when trying out for spring club teams, I got cut from my ‘dream club’, and I was really disappointed because I had been encouraged by some of the coaches in that club to try out, including my high school coach, so I felt like I should’ve made the team. I also ended up only making the second team for my original club. These experiences put a lot of doubt into my mind about my own ability as a player, but it also put some fire in me to prove myself. After making the second highest team in my old club, I declined the offer and went to try out for a different club, and managed to get onto the highest team in one of Calgary’s most highly respected and competitive clubs. This was an obstacle because it made me have to rebuild my confidence from the ground up, after it was damaged by getting cut, and making me doubt myself.
I think that I am a very fast learner. I am also very coachable.
If I don’t understand something, when coach explains it to me I will pick it up in a shorter amount of time than most players. This also applies to being in a game situation, not just in practice. I can recognize what opponents are trying to do so I can figure out ways to counter them more easily. If I am getting double teamed, I am not afraid to change my strategy and be more a distributor instead of a scorer. I think that I am also very persistent, I have a drive to do whatever I am interested in, the best that I possibly can!
