Sports has been one of my key passions since my earliest memories. My dedication to being the best athlete possible and perfecting my craft drives everything I do. I apply the same dedication to my education, to my family life, and to maintaining my mental and physical health.
I am the youngest of three brothers, so athletic games and games of skill have been part of my life since before I could walk. My older brothers were my first coaches. They always included me and challenged me. As the youngest and smallest in the family, I had to work extra hard and be smart to compete with them, but those early lessons started me on the right path. Especially when it comes to competitive spirit and adapting against bigger athletes.
I was exposed to many sports since my earliest childhood and I did them all. I enjoy all sports at a recreational level – soccer, skiing, swimming, baseball, gymnastics etc. I have competed at school and club levels in track and field, lacrosse, soccer and ice hockey. My love of all sports has made me a versatile athlete. Ice hockey was my main competitive sport until Grade 9. When my preoccupation with basketball took over and I decided to make it my primary sport. I have never looked back and have devoted myself to becoming the best basketball player I can be.
My focus is to do everything I can to hone my basketball skills and to develop my mental and physical fitness to fit the optimal athletic and mental profile of a professional basketball player.
My life is very consistent and routine-based. Im on the court working on skills everyday and always watching film related to players who play my position. At least twice a week, I train one-on-one and in a small group with a dedicated basketball skills coach (David Tyndale). In game situations, I constantly strive to apply my coaches’ training and feedback to achieve game results.
To be able to dedicate so much time to basketball, I have had to be extremely disciplined about my approach to studying and school. This discipline has resulted in my steadily improving marks. I was an Ontario Scholar (80% average or higher) 4/5 years of highschool. I enjoy school and my teachers and look forward to continuing my academic career in lockstep with my athletic career.
I understand that mental fitness is a very important element in an athlete’s skill set. I ensure that I get adequate sleep, and I have developed a meditation practice. Meditation has helped my performance in immeasurable ways. It helps me calm my mind, to stay in control, and to focus on whatever needs to be done. I am tough, but I cannot be provoked. I am a calming force and set a good example to my teammates.
Playing college basketball at the highest level is my goal. I want to prove what I am capable of. I want to find the right college match, and am open to all possibilities.
