Samuel Esteva '18 Recruiting Profile

My name is Samuel Esteva Lopez. I am 17 years old; I was born on August 12th, 2000 in Madrid (Spain), where I live with my parents, Gaspar and Marta, and my sister, Martina. I am currently studying the last year of Higher Secondary Education in Margarita Salas High School in Majadahonda (Madrid). I play basketball as a guard in Las Rozas Basketball Club.

The illusion of any athlete, especially if we refer to basketball, is to have the opportunity to cross the Atlantic to enjoy this sport where it is best practiced, and my case is not an exception. So I thank you in advance for your time and I hope my profile fits what you are looking for.

I am sure that the experience of studying outside your country makes you evolve in all aspects, and that is why I would love to do my studies in the United States: to fend for myself outside of Spain, improve my English, which is essential in the society in which we live, and being part of the American system studying and playing basketball.

As a student I have had good grades all my life. I am studying the mode of Social Sciences in which last year I had a 3.4 GPA. To this day I'm still a little hesitant about what degree to do, I have some things in mind: Physical Education, Journalism, Political Sciences... but I hope to have it clear the next few months. I ghad also a rating of 1120 on the SAT and soon I'll be examining the TOEFL.

I started playing basketball when I was 8 years old with my father, and since then it has become the thing I invest most of my time and enjoy the most. I have spent three years playing in Las Rozas Basketball Club and since this year I am also an assistant coach with a team of 9-year-old kids. In my team we train four-five days a week, with physical preparation in three of them, and play games on Sundays.

As a player I am a fast and skilled guard and a good defender with ability to overcome the defender in one against one and create good shots, both for me and my mates. I have a very competitive character, so I always try to give the best of me on the court. My goal is to improve every day to be the best player to allow me my possibilities, so that being able to compete in the United States would be a challenge and an illusion.

Apart from basketball I like all sports, both practice and follow on TV. I am a loyal follower of the NBA so I always keep the memory of going to a game to Madison Square Garden when I visited new York. I like travelling, going out with my friends, reading, listening to music and watching TV series; I am a big fan of Game of Thrones.

The American system is an academic and sporting model, the possibilities it offers the students and the impulse that gives to the sport make it very enviable. So it is a dream for me to take part of it in the upcoming years and leave Spain to meet other people, see other ways of life and develop as a person.
