Getting cut twice in two years isn't what anyone who hopes to play college basketball expects entering high school, but it's exactly what happened to me. As a freshman and sophomore, I attended St. John's College High School in Washington, DC, and I was cut from both the freshman team my freshman year, and the JV team my sophomore year. People were telling me that maybe basketball wasn't for me, and it would have been easy for me to give up. But I didn't. That was when I learned how determined and competitive I was, and how badly I wanted to be successful at basketball. I wish you could have seen me two years ago to see how far I've come! As my coaches say, no one works harder than I do. Many people would view getting cut twice as a negative, but to me, that only made me better, and I believe that I wouldn't be where I am today had that not happened to me.
After those two years, I transferred. It was such a great decision for me, as I am now part of a great program and excelling academically. In my first year we won the conference championship and went 23-0 in our conference. Being a starter on this team, I learned pretty quickly how to be a good leader and an even better teammate. These are things that I pride myself on. I'm looking for a program that will build on my many strengths, and push me to be a great college player, and will also be a good fit for me academically. I believe that I have the skills to be an asset on and off the court and be a coalition-builder on any team that I play for.
