Hello, my name is Cameron Alexander and from birth I have gravitated towards basketball. My parents told me that they placed all the other major sports balls in my crib, and I would not pick up any other ball except a basketball. Basketball has caused me to travel all throughout the United States. I am half African American and half Filipino so that alone has given me more advantages then most. I was very fortunate to travel to Canada to play on the Washington D.C. select team for my Filipino heritage. Then most recently I was placed on the Filipino National watchlist for consideration to play in the 2026 Olympics.
My parents have been very influential in my basketball development. They have put me in the best situations that have challenged me, and it has helped me to become the best version of me to this point. They have sent me to several basketball camps such as Five Star, Junior Phenom Top 100 Camp just to name a few.
This journey for me started at the very young age of 3 so I was told. I went with my dad who is a high school basketball coach and all he would let me do is dribble 2 balls at the same time. I taught myself how to count in kindergarten because I would go to his games and watch the score keep changing until I knew how to count. My dad would watch basketball for hours and I would sit and watch it with him, and I was like a sponge just soaking it all up.
What I have learned about myself playing the sport I love is that at times I can be very passionate about the game. Usually, I show no emotion I just play the game but at times my emotions come through. I also noticed that I could play this game in high pressured situations and come out on top. The thing that it really has taught me is how to lose with class. I understand that you can’t win them all but when I lose, I know how to do it with dignity.
My academic goals for high school and college will be the same as it was for middle school to strive for A’s and B’s and its ok to get a C if I am giving it my very best.
In my early years of AAU basketball, I had to overcome people and coaches thinking that I could not play because I didn’t meet their eye test version of a basketball player. My parents told me to use that as fuel to motivate me and that made me work harder than ever to get to this point. Now those same coaches that overlooked me then want me to play for them now.
Throughout my journey I have become a “gym rat” trying to perfect my craft as my dad would say. I would like to say that for my size I finish well around the rim. I am known in my hometown as one of the best shooters for my age group. I am one of the best combo guards in my age group and other AAU coaches from different teams have come up to me and told me to continue to get better because they love watching me and that I am something special.
