Personal Statement
I know I am blessed and very fortunate to have the physical ability to participate in and excel in sports. Since I was six (6) years old, I played basketball and football. In football, I won a National Championship at the age of nine (9). My skills and versatility allowed me to play both on offense and defense every year. Football helped me to develop the work ethic I use today; however, I only like football. I love basketball. Basketball was not easy when I first started to play it, but with my determination and work ethic, each year I made myself a better basketball player than the year before. Along the way, my leadership skills also increased. When I entered high school, I decided to devote my time fully to basketball. I wanted to take everything I knew and have and refocus it on becoming a solid shooting/point guard capable of playing at the college level. As I entered my senior year, my coaches and teammates have voted me to be one of the captains of the team. I do not take this honor lightly and look forward to leading by example not only on the court but off the court as well.
I believe I have prepared myself to play at the college level. I have learned the value of teamwork, commitment, sacrifice, and leadership. I also believe that not only do I have the talent to compete on the next level but with my character and work ethic, I can make an immediate impact on a college program. I'm looking for a program that will be a good fit for me academically as well as athletically. I need a program that will hold me accountable, yet present opportunities for me to learn and grow from my mistakes, defeats, and failures. I strive to be a well-rounded young man. I am very active in my church, love interacting with my friends, enjoy being a role model for my younger siblings, and like to play the drums. I plan to major in Communications and inspire to be a writer and/or Sports Insider someday.
