2020 Spotlight
2020 HighlightsMy name is Makai Shepardson, and I am a competitive, guard committed to excelling at the collegiate level. I completed a post-graduate year at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where I focused on developing my overall game, physical strength, and basketball IQ. During that time I was awarded MVP honors at both the Beach Ball Classic and the Big Shots Tournament in South Carolina, and I was also voted MVP of my IMG team. These experiences reinforced my confidence and confirmed my ability to impact winning at a high level.
This Fall I also attended Fisher College practices with the team and took a redshirt year to further prepare myself for the demands of college basketball. Offensively, I am a downhill guard who looks to attack gaps, push tempo, and make smart reads. I use my speed to get into the lane, finish at the rim, or dish to open teammates. I understand spacing, pace, and the importance of ball movement. I do not measure my success solely by points scored; I measure it by how well I elevate my teammates and contribute to winning basketball. I played varsity basketball and soccer at Pittsfield High School, and being a multi-sport athlete has directly influenced my basketball performance. Soccer has enhanced my lateral quickness, conditioning, and defensive footwork, which translates into strong on-ball defense, quick hands, and the ability to disrupt passing lanes. Defense is one of the strongest parts of my game I take pride in pressuring the ball, creating steals, and turning defense into offense. I am highly motivated, disciplined, and committed to being in elite physical condition. Basketball has taught me how to handle adversity, manage my time, and maintain focus through highs and lows. One of the most important lessons I have learned is the value of mental toughness, self-care, and confidence. Early in my varsity career, I had to learn my role, earn trust, and impact the game in multiple ways. That process shaped me into a more complete and selfless player.
Off the court, I live with my mother and younger brother, Leo. Being a role model has strengthened my leadership and accountability. I coached my brother’s biddy basketball team this year, which helped me better understand communication, patience, and leadership from a different perspective. I believe true leadership shows during adversity anyone can lead when winning, but character is revealed in tough moments.I am a coachable, high-energy guard who brings defensive intensity, unselfish play, and a winning mindset. My goal at the collegiate level is to compete every day, earn my role, and do whatever it takes to help my team succeed.
