Personal Statement

My collegiate goals are to receive an athletic scholarship.  My specific college of choice will be the one that helps me prepare for life after basketball as well as improve and utilize my talents on the basketball court. I am different from other recruits in that I love to play the game the right way.  I am a team player and will pass to the open man, rather than force a shot.  I am a combo guard, with strong on ball and off ball defense, with ball handling abilities, full-court vision, and a scoring mentality.  I enjoy working continually to improve. I love the game and want to play it for as long as possible.  My hope is to find a school that will give me the opportunity to continue my basketball career and will provide me with a strong learning environment.

Club Information

  • Seasons of Club Experience
  • 3 seasons
  • 2017 Championship Sports Gold (AAU U16 )
  • An even better and stronger year than last year as we won every pool play and made every Platinum Bracket in every Tournament. We lost only twice to non-sponsored shoe teams, both times were when we were down a player or two due to an injury or two, or vacations. This team has become a Super-pool Basketball Team.
  • 2016 Championship Sports Gold (AAU U15 )
  • This was a great year as we won most of our pool play and were able to get some experience in Platinum Brackets.
  • 2015 Championship Sports, Mt. Pleasant, MI (MI) (AAU U14)
  • Definitely a season of learning how to play against stronger, taller, and faster competition. This is much different than High School. We won some Silver and Gold Brackets and gained confidence as a team while also taking home some metals.

  • U17 AAU Team: Championship Sports Gold. This was my last AAU tournament and we left it all on the court! We finished 2-1 in the pool play defeating Team Focus and London CYO, but losing to a very good Indiana Elite Ice. In the Platinum Bracket we made it to the Quarterfinals by defeating two very strong teams: TNBA East and Indiana Elite Force. In the Quarterfinals we were down by one at the half and up by 7 with 5 minutes to go; but, ended up losing to one of Michigan's strongest teams, Michigan Playmakers. I finished with 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 12 points against the Playmakers -and a desire to play more teams just like them in the future.

  • U17 AAU Team: Championship Sports Gold. Our team continues to make adjustments as we are losing and adding players. Our coaches, Bill Flannery and Rance Charboneau are constantly trying to assess the new players' strengths and weaknesses and match them up appropriately and at the right time. They're doing a tremendous job and keeping this team together -as a Championship team. I'm tremendously thankful for them and for two of my teammates Blake Charboneau and Nate Flannery. Nate is one of the best PGs in the State and Blake constantly battles. This past weekend we battled back from an opening loss to winning 7 straight games - finishing 7-1 and winning the Silver Bracket Championship. We played some very strong and good teams, defeating The Family in OT for the Silver Bracket trophy.

  • NY2LA Next Level
  • 7/11/18 to 7/15/18
  • U17 AAU Team: Championship Sports Gold. To start July, our team is now losing some players as they are either injured or no longer interested in College basketball opportunities. Regardless, our core players were strong. We won our pool and moved onto the Open Division of the NY2LA tournament. Our first game was against a very strong NY2LA Association Team called, Chicago Lockdown. This team is very good. We would all like to play against opposing players like them more often. We played hard, but lost the battle as some of our shots just wouldn't fall. This moved us to the Gold side of the bracket to match up against a team we had already defeated in Lima, OH. MBA is a team with a lot of height, but our guard play helped us open up a 14 point lead, which we maintained throughout most of the game. Our next game was against a very good NY2LA Association Team, WI Blizzards. Thankfully, our shots were falling in the first half and gave us a strong lead that helped us manage a more inconsistent second half. We moved on to the Quarterfinals where we met a very good Minnesota team, WOTN. Unfortunately, we couldn't buy a shot in the first half and found ourselves down by 26 points; however, we owned the second half as our guard play picked up and we scored 20 unanswered points. We found ourselves within 6 points with a minute to go. Sadly, the run ended with 3 missed shots from close range and a distaste in our mouths from some questionable calls. We didn't lose, we simply ran out of time. We're thankful to have been able to play in a NY2LA tournament and would love to do it again!

  • Bankhoops.com (Steve Bell) summary of my game: Britton Angell 6-2 Sr Big Rapids Crossroads: It’s not often you’d look to the Class D ranks for a defender, but Angell breaks the mold. He was aggressive and athletic on that end, quick hands, feet to recover. Left-hander knocked down some 3s in games. Similar to another Class D to WHAC recruit Bellaire-to-Cornerstone’s Gabe Meriwether, not as smooth but just as athletic, finished above the rim.

  • U17 AAU Team: Championship Sports Gold. This was a bracket only tournament, no pool play. We came into this tournament expecting to do well and we did. We finished undefeated beating some very good Michigan teams along the way (West MI Lakers, MBA, GR Storm and Sporting U ) to bring home the Tournament Win and the hardware! It feels good to win a tournament with so many good teams competing. Last year this tournament was won by Reach Legends, so we are now members of an elite club of champions.

  • This weekend was a learning weekend. The teams we played were talented and well coached. Every game we played was down to the wire -the last 4 minutes changes everything. We led a Super Pool team at halftime; yet, didn't finish well. Our team was short a couple players and playing hurt; we can do a lot better. Our defense is solid. Our shots just didn't fall. We know what we need to work on. U17 AAU Championship Sports Gold. Pool Play, finished 1-2. Our pool was so strong, we still went to the Platinum bracket and put the SP team on their heels. We led by 6 at the half, but came out stone cold. We only scored 35 points to their 43. I hope we meet them again!

  • We played solid basketball -the Spiece Fieldhouse is one of my favorite places to play. U17 AAU Championship Sports Gold. Pool Play, finished 2-1 with 2 other teams and were dropped to the Silver Bracket because of a point differential tie breaker. The team we defeated went to the Platinum bracket. I'm not sure our team recovered from the disappointment as we lost in a small gym during the second round of bracket play.

We lost to a strong Canadian team -once again giving up an 8 point lead in the second half. We will do better!

  • 6’1 PG Britton Angell (Big Rapids Crossroads – 2019) Angell’s style is what caught my eye. At 6’1 and with long arms, he is a plus sized point guard. However his skillset fits that of what most point guards are. He handles the ball well and has good vision when the ball is in his hands. He simply makes plays. In the skill session his length allowed him to be somewhat of a mismatch problem for most kids in the early session. He has lots talent with the ball and his length and athleticism allowed him to compete with taller wings who were generally slower than he was. In games Angell displayed his point guard abilities by dropping dimes with ease. He also has a smooth looking lefty shot that kept defenders honest and made them play up on him. He used his quickness then to get by them and finish around the hoop with consistency as well. Angell will be the star player for the Class D school and is expected to have another big season after performing well his freshman year on varsity.

  • Britton Angell 6-2 So Big Rapids Crossroads: Left-hander who knocked down three-pointers off the catch and dribble. It’s no surprise that he came from such a successful 15U AAU team, Champ Sports Gold, as Angell willingly did the little things and dirty stuff you have to have to win. “Good handle and did a nice job of making plays for teammates in transition,” a coach said. “Strong off-handed dribbler, but weak off-handed finisher.” “He was impressive in games as a ‘PTRW’ guy,” said another. “He made the extra pass and boxed out even if the rebound was out of his area.”
