I have been playing basketball ever since I was a little kid. As I've grown up, I’ve always had cousins and other extended family members that I’ve looked up to as players. I’ve enjoyed playing basketball and been serious about it since a young age, which I think has helped me become the player I am today. I play basketball year-round and always work hard in and out of practice. Since the 4th grade, I have played for the Comets AAU team and still do. Being part of different teams has made me a more flexible player and taught me how to play with many different people. In college, I want to play basketball for a strong program and graduate with a degree in the medical field. I want to be a part of a team that will push me not only in basketball but also in school.
My sophomore year of high school was my first time starting on a varsity team. During this season, our team won the section championship and the state championship. Individually, I made 1st all-conference team, 1st all-section team, and Class AA all-state team. On our team, I have always been seen as a leader. Being a leader for our team has made me a better person overall and taught me how to be a good role model and how to keep everyone in line. It also helped me stay focused on my goals and what I want to accomplish in life. Throughout my basketball career so far, I have had to deal with bad coaching which has taught me to keep my head down and just focus on the things I can control, which are attitude and effort.
When being described by my teammates and coaches I am often said to be a strong ball handler, play bigger than I look, and have strong defense along with high energy. I have also been told that I play bigger than I look and am a great leader and communicator with my coaches and teammates. Another thing I take pride in is my high basketball IQ which helps me make the right decisions like when to shoot and when to pass. I also am able to see the court well and can score at a good percentage on all 3 levels. Lastly, I’m not afraid to play aggressively and dive around, showing that I’m always putting in all my effort.
