Joshua Royston '16 Recruiting Profile

I can't remember a time when basketball was not a part of my life; my brothers and I have always played a lot of basketball together.  My Dad passed on the love of the game to me at a very early age.  We have always had some type of basketball hoop at our house.  When I was very young, we even had a full basketball court in the top of our barn.  I started playing competitive basketball in 5th grade with Upward Basketball in Rochester, Minnesota.  In 6th grade, I played on my school's junior high school team and have played there ever since.

I am a good ball handler, can shoot with my left or right hand, calm under pressure, play strong defense and am a very good shot blocker.  I am not the most vocal player on the court, but I always try to lead by example.  I understand the importance of listening to my coaches and make every effort to do whatever they ask me to do on the court.  This year I was honored to be named one of the team Captains.

Off the court, my grades are important to me and I work hard to maintain a high GPA.  I have volunteered to help coach the school's 4th and 5th grade youth basketball team in the regular coach's absence.  

I am definitely looking forward to having the opportunity to play basketball at the next level.  My goal is to find a college that will challenge me both in the classroom and on the basketball court.
