Personal Statement
My name is Brandon Bridgewater, a senior at Sunset Park High School in Brooklyn New York. I fell in love with the game of basketball at the age of eleven. The first time I ever watched a basketball game was the Miami Heat Playoff Series against the New York Knicks. I was a young boy mesmerized by the talent of all the NBA players that were playing that day. A couple of months later summer vacation came and all I wanted to do was go to Sunset Park and play basketball.
As I started exploring the game of basketball, I became much more intrigued by how the game was played by the greats such as Magic Johnson, Jason Kidd, and the greatest to ever play Michael Jordan. I would go to the park day in and day out wanting to get better but always going back home crying and upset because everyone else said "I wasn't good enough". From that age I told my step dad that I wanted to be the go to guy in every team I played for and later in life become a star at the highest level. Even he doubted me, he told me " Not everyone is capable of that .” Since that day I've been on a quest to prove him and everyone that has ever doubted me wrong.
I play the game of basketball due to the love I have for the game, but also to be able to give back to everyone that has supported me through my journey and to be able to support communities through a much bigger platform. My next step in my journey is to go to a great college and compete at that level while being able to still receive the best education possible. Basketball has taught me that no matter what you want in life, everything is achievable but it is up to you to go out there and get it because it won't be easy.
