Josh Miller-LaBar...Since I was young I have dreamed of playing college basketball. When I began playing in 4th grade I was definitely on the lower end of the talent scale. I always wanted to be one of the guys on the court at the end of a close game, but at that point I certainly wasn't. I decided to work hard on the fundamentals of the game and used every day over the summer to improve my game. I led my team as a center in 7th grade and the following year was moved up to junior varsity as an 8th grader and started at point guard. I realized quickly that the hard work was paying off.
Both my basketball and football coach will tell you that I am one of the hardest working players in season, as well as during the off season. I am a team player and try to always lead by my actions. They will also tell you that I am very coachable and always looking for ways to improve my game. I am the only player on my team in the last 3 years that has attended all optional shoot a-rounds on Saturday mornings. Last season I was the starting shooting guard and asked to play the point quite a bit. Most of the season I wore an extensive shoulder brace which limited me from putting my arm above head level. I averaged 10 points a game while wearing it. The last 1/3 of the season my shoulder healed and I was able to wear a less limiting brace and my stats increased dramatically. I averaged 18 points per game, 5 rebounds, 2 assist and shot 42% from 2 point range and 45% from 3 point range.
I am a leader and tend to do so by example. I was voted by my peers to be Class President and was one of 4 students in our school district to be selected by our administration to attend a regional leadership seminar at Ithaca College.
Additionally, both of my parents received scholarships to play at division I colleges so they are very supportive of my goals.
