My name is Céadan Ash, I'm 17 & currently live in Blessington, Ireland. From an early age, I participated in various sports such as soccer, GAA & swimming during my primary school years, gaining many medals & making county teams for these sports. However, it was not until I began secondary school that I discovered my passion for basketball which has only grown stronger over the past four years.
As someone who stands at an impressive height of 6'11", understanding the mechanics of my body has been a gradual process but one that I have come to embrace fully with time. There is still much more for me to learn about myself and from others on how best to utilize this size advantage effectively on the court.
What do I offer my team - I bring several unique advantages to the court. My height allows me to easily reach for rebounds and block shots from opponents, giving our team an advantage in both offense and defense. Additionally, my height also enables me to see the court from a different perspective, allowing me to make strategic passes and find openings that may not be as visible to shorter players. Furthermore, my size and presence on the court can intimidate opposing teams, making them less likely to challenge me or take risky shots. Overall, I am a valuable asset to my basketball team and help us succeed on the court.
My journey in basketball started with Dublin Lions club where I played for one season. My love for the sport grew stronger over time, leading me to Éanna Basketball Club in Dublin in 2020; this decision proved to be pivotal as it became my home base. Presently, I am an active member of both U18's & U20's teams at this club. The high school I previously attended lacked a basketball team, prompting me to transfer to another school - Coláiste Éanna to complete my final two years of study. This new school boasts the top junior and senior basketball teams in the country, giving me greater opportunities for court time and skill development.
In September 2022 I got the opportunity to take a gap year from school & attended CBA Basketball academy located in Badajoz Spain - renowned for its excellent training program and having produced some great basketball players. The daily routine at CBA Basketball academy was rigorous yet exciting; we trained up-to three times a day working on various aspects including ball handling skills and teamwork among others while actively playing across different levels within our group. The trainers were highly experienced providing personalized coaching which helped us improve our game significantly. The experience here not only improved my skills on the court but also taught valuable life lessons such as discipline, perseverance and teamwork - exposure to different cultures, broadened horizons & giving new perspective towards life itself.
My basketball journey so far has been super, and I am very grateful for every experience. Each moment, whether it be a win or a loss, has shaped me into the player I am today and ignited a passion within me. It is because of these experiences that I am driven to continue my journey through college basketball. The thought of attending a university where I can not only pursue my studies but also play for their team fills me with both excitement and determination. It would be an honor to represent my school on the court and contribute to their legacy while further honing my skills as a player. With hard work, dedication, and an unwavering love for the game, I am confident that this dream will become a reality.
Over the years I have had the privilege of attending several high-level camps organized by esteemed institutions such as Basketball Ireland Invitational, Sports Dream Academy Invitational, Rip-n-Run and my own club. These opportunities have allowed me to hone my skills and develop a deeper understanding of the game beyond Irish shores, including Serbia and Florida. Additionally, participating in AAU tournaments has provided invaluable exposure to differing playing styles and techniques. All of these experiences have had a significant role in shaping me not only into a better player but also into a better person.
