My name is Brian Vales and I am finishing my freshman year at Mount Sinai High School. Although I am a multi sport athlete, basketball has been my passion since i was a little kid. I have always worked incredibly hard to achieve the goals I set for myself. In fact, during the covid pandemic, I played several hours a day and I felt this was the turning point for me as I became a dominant force on the court. I have a strong handle with both hands and can shoot with both hands proficently in the paint. I have a consistent mid range to 3 point jump shot. I also can drive and have very strong post moves. I am a dominant rebounder and blocker and I am a force to be reckoned with on defense. I can also slam dunk with ease.
When I was in 8th grade, I tried out and made the JV high school team. I was a starter for my JV team and played over teammates who were 2 years older than me. I was asked at the conclusion of 8th grade to play for my high school varisty team. I was the only freshman on the varisty team. I worked my way from the bench into the starting rotation by the second game of the season. In fact, i started almost half of our games and played signifcant minutes (especially in tight games). I expect to be starter for the next 3 years. I will play a forward/guard position. As a freshman, I was named to the All Long Island Freshman list (which only 14 athletes in all of Long Island make).
I am currently 6'5". My wingspan is currently 6'10". I am a very strong ball handler and i see the court incredibly well. I have many assists, My goal is to play team ball and to help my team win.
I have always achieved my goals. I have made the travel teams that I have tried out for and my next goal is to play college basketball at the division I level. I work hard not only with my teams, but independently with strength training, ball handling, shooting and lateral quickness, I work very hard both on and off the court.
School is also a priority to me. I have made the high honor every quarter in high school and I plan to continue my high academic performance.
Not only was I successful in playing varisty basketball as a freshman, I also made the varisty soccer team as a freshman this past year where I currently play defense.
I would like to eventually pursue my academics in college while studying business wihile pursuing my goal of playing college ball. I will continue to work hard as I am self motivated to continue my growth both on and off the court. I look forward to hearing from coaches who will help me reach my next goal as a collegeiate basketball player.
