Personal Statement
I have been playing basketball for 5 years starting at age 12 up until my senior year of high school. It is without question that I have gained much skills and exposure as a player but the most essential quality I have garnered is the work ethic and character first, before the basketball player. I could list the achievements of trophies and awards I have received however, it is not my greatest asset nor will it provide a true insight as to the person and basketball player I truly am. Before I was a serious basketball player, I learned what it truly means to be an athlete through the personal struggles in my life as a son, grandson and friend. It was these tough moments that shaped the way I play on and off the court because life itself is a game and it levels up each year you grow older. I took off my sophomore year when I became captain and point guard of my team. Our team got the best record in years, eventually surpassing that in my junior year, going over .500 for the first time in school history. I won team MVP and 1st team all conference in the WIAA my sophomore and junior years. It is due to my determination, work-ethic and self-respect that I had gained a chance to be a valuable basketball player. I hope that I will find a place for my work ethic and character in college especially one that would not only value me as a basketball player but also the person behind that ball. To
