Andrew Jackson '19 Recruiting Profile

Over the past few years, I have grown to become a leader in athletics as well as academics. I earned a starting position as a freshman on my high school varsity team and, as a sophomore, my team played in our league championship game. This season, as a junior, our high school basketball team was very successful. We won the Section IV Class C Championship. With the help of my teammates,  I was fortunate to be named Basketball Coaches Association of NY (BCANY) "Player of the Year" in Section IV, Class C and was also named to the All Section IV team. I was named to the All-State team as well (4^th team). I scored my 1120th point as a varsity basketball player and was named the MVP of our league. I thank my teammates and coaches for helping me earn these accomplishments.
As a chosen captain and underclassman, I assumed a leadership role throughout the season and understood how important it was to incorporate each teammate into each game. I specifically feel proud of how I was able to lead my team to some big victories over larger schools throughout the season. I have gained confidence in my basketball skills and leadership abilities through AAU competition as well. In August, I played on the BCANY Summer Hoop Festival team that included outstanding players who represent the Southern Tier of NY. My competitiveness and determination have served me well when going up against high-level competition.    

I am looking for a reputable institution where I can find the right balance between athletics and academics. As a member of the National Honor Society, I value outstanding character, excellent academic performance, service projects and the ability to lead. My desire to collaborate with others, yet maintain independence, has paid off for me thus far. I feel I have a good work ethic and my GPA is 3.9 At this time, I am uncertain of my academic major but have an interest in sciences, business and sports marketing. I value a university with an outstanding academic reputation. Ideally, I would like to be part of a team where I could make an immediate impact. I believe I not only have the talent to compete for a college team but the character, work ethic and leadership skills to make an immediate impact on your program.
