Personal Statement

I am a strong prospect for any collegiate basketball team. I am a young basketball player who's passion for the game is unrivaled. When I'm not playing I am practicing, watching game film, conditioning, and doing anything I can to push myself to be the absolute best. I am a dedicated player. Many say that there is an off-season; that concept does not apply to me. At the end of my regular basketball season, I played for a Summer AAU team and traveled all over New York playing some elite competition. In August I was asked to join a Fall basketball team, the Section X Elite Spartans. I travel 1-3 hours a day for practice twice a week with my team, and on the other days, I practice on my own. On weekends, we travel New York state, playing in tournaments against other elite teams. When Fall ball is over my regular season starts again.

Due to the physical demands of the game, physical fitness is a high priority for me. I rarely come off the court due to my athetic presence and dedication to my team. I love to battle down low and am the first one on the floor or diving into the stands to get any loose balls.

In addition to playing basketball, I push myself academically and I am involved in the community. I help the varsity basketball coach with our school’s fifth and sixth grade basketball team, being present at practices and games to help the younger students become better athletes. I know I'm young and that there is always room for improvement both athletically, academically and in my life as a whole. With that said, I am the first one in, and the last one out. I am willing to do whatever is needed to help my team succeed on the court, in the classroom and in life.

  • Jacob Stradley, of Tupper Lake (NY) Tupper Lake Middle HS, is a 6'2 190lb 2020 prospect from our Spring 2018 NY camp. College coaches on camp staff identified Jacob as having scholarship potential. Jacob has a great wingspan that gives the player the potential to be a lock down defender and can be even more effective with active hands/feet. Additionally, the prospect appears to have very good size for position when used properly remains advantageous on both sides of the ball. The player does a pretty good job of distributing the basketball. With continued emphasis of seeing the whole floor at all times, that skill will become a valuable asset. In terms of ball handling, the prospect showed a strong handle and has the potential to be a primary ball handler with daily work. The prospect's Basketball IQ definitely stood out at camp and proved to be really good. Through continued emphasis on making the right play through watching/learning the game, it can be a big advantage in recruiting.A big part of IQ is shot selection. Jacob does a great job of understanding when there is enough time and space to shoot the ball and will continue to develop this knowledge by watching how this is done at various college levels. Making the extra pass and taking only open in-rhythm shots proved to be a reliable asset for the prospect. The prospect was able to consistently knock down shots during camp showing to be a reliable asset. Shooting will continue to develop with form shooting and madegame speed repetitions. We recommend making at least 500 game speed shots a day off the screen(curl/fades), off the bounce, spot shooting, etc. The talent impressed finishing around the rim through contact and in traffic. With continued work finishing through traffic with either hand, adding even more finishing moves, the player will continue to be a grave threat around the basket. The talented player has good athletic ability for size and age. ScoutsFocus would like to see continued development in speed/agility and vertical development. Jump rope drills are great full body conditioning drill we highly recommend if not ready for a rigorous weight-training program. We determined the prospect's strength to be one of their best qualities. The college game is an entirely different beast so continued strength development is crucial to prepare going against 23-24 year-olds. Combined with the player's decent frame, we expect the player to really develop with continued work in the weight room. The talent had an impressive motor (highly coveted skill by college coaches) that we believe will translate well at the next level. College coaches will be impressed watching the talented prospects motor and from what we saw, the player showed physical and mental toughness throughout camp. The player showed a great understanding and effort on the defensive side of the ball and should continue to focus on individual and team defensive concepts emphasized at camp. Jacob has scholarship potentialwith continued hard work and development both in the classroom and on the hardwood. Can play the 3; 4. AAU Team: Section X Spartans.
