Personal Statement

My name is Jon, I am a 6'7" 212 lbs 4/5 with a 6'11" wingspan on my 2015 AAU travel team, the Capital City Tigers, where we have won several SW regional tournaments and competed in the AAU/ESPN Nationals in Orlando, PrimeTime Nationals in Dallas, and showcase events including All-American Prodigy, Stanford University High Potential Camp, Nike Pre-Draft Camp, D1-Nation Top 100. I currently have a 3.6 GPA, am on honor roll, and am registered in 4 AP level classes with a focus on Math & Science in High School. During mid season of the 2012-13 year I relocated with my family from Austin, TX to Raleigh, NC and attended Apex HS, where I played as a starter and we finished in the 3rd round of the state playoffs. I also started as a 4/5 in the 2013-14 year, and we finished the season by winning the North Carolina 4A State Championship game in March 2014, and this year we won the SWAC conference championship for the 4th straight year as we prepare for the North Carolina 2015 State Playoffs.
I am seeking to further my academic studies in the pre-medical and business fields at a 4 year university where I can also excel as a basketball athlete through my hard work. I am self-motivated,  and invest hard in the off season to improve my game mentally & physically.

  • Camp/Event
  • I-35 Showcase Challenge: Class of 2012
  • 9/30/12 to 9/30/12
  • Jones seems to get better every time out, literally. He had 10 points and 12 rebounds in the 2015 game. He works so hard, never taking a play off. I had to keep promoting him up to the game vs the 2013 players and he proceeded to hang 22 points and 10 rebounds on the soon to be college bound 2013 guys. However at 6’6? and looking like he’s got 2-5 inches additional growth ahead of him he really is one to keep a weather eye on.
  • Camp/Event
  • Top 100 National Camp: The Bigs
  • 8/08/12 to 8/10/12
  • 2015 P 6' 5 Jonathan Jones Round Rock Westwood (TX) "Watch out for this young fella! Could top out at around 6’10?. He goes about his business quietly, carries superior academics and doesn’t mind doing the dirty work where when all is said and done he has double digit boards. Note the nice hesitation move in the picture to the left, causing the defender to climb his back."
  • Camp/Event
  • Stanford High Potential Camp
  • 6/22/12 to 6/25/12
  • Stanford University: Targeted toward those high potential individuals who are excelling on their High School, Club or AAU teams, consists of very intense sessions of games and instructions for athletes who aspire to play at the next level. The Stanford Coaching Staff is on hand for the entire camp and is heavily involved in instruction, including coaching position breakdown sessions
  • Camp/Event
  • All-American Prodigy Camp
  • 3/11/12 to 3/11/12
  • The 2012 Spring Edition of the All American Prodigy Camp was held on Sunday, March 11th at the George Gervin Wellness Center. It was the first time in the camp’s 5 year history that San Antonio hosted the event. There were what I have identified as 25 Division One players on hand in the Class of 2013, 2014 and 2015. They were primarily from Central Texas.
  • Camp/Event
  • Point Guard College (PGC): Think The Game
  • 7/06/11 to 7/11/11
  • 6/10-11, 2011: OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY: An intense, rigorous basketball training event that focuses on what & how to practice to excel on the court, habit & skills necessary to be effective against bigger, faster players... 7/6-11, 2011: SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY: An event designed for college & mature high school players to increase basketball IQ, being a team leader that people want to follow, and for players making a transition from post or forward to being a guard.
  • Camp/Event
  • NBA Spurs Camp
  • 6/20/10 to 6/25/10
  • University of Incarnate Word: Focus on fundamental skill development, practice drills and training techniques, and game competitions. Recognized as event MVP in age category, later recognized on court at San Antonio Spurs vs OK Thunder NBA game
