My name is Brayden Johnson and I’m a junior ay First Flight High School in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. I am a goal-oriented student/athlete who diligently works to achieve my objectives. My past goals have included making the Varsity Basketball team as freshman, earning a starting position and being able to dunk as a sophomore and making Academic Honor Roll every semester as a high school student. I made Varsity as a freshman and was the starting “off guard“ my sophomore year. Point guard is my natural position, but coach needed me in a different role, so I became our team’s best defender and drew the matchup against the other team’s top perimeter scorer each night. Dunking at 5'10”, my height at the time, took daily effort in the offseason, lifting weights and working out but I got my first dunk during warm-ups of a preseason scrimmage last November. While dunking was the goal, those workouts improved my athleticism, giving me the confidence and ability to defend the best players in our region. I've made honor roll each semester in high school so far, coping with dyslexia has made this goal challenging but I'm determined to be a high achiever academically.
Going into this season I will be the starting point guard for FFHS, and I expect to have a great year. My scoring increased dramatically this past summer in club (OBX Ballers) to 16.5ppg with the size and strength I've added, now close to 6'1" and 170lbs. However, I'm most excited to facilitate for my teammates and step into a leadership role for my HS team. A goal this past offseason was to improve my quickness, get stronger, and be prepared to handle the physicality of high-level guard play, particularly against pressure. I also plan to be the best defender in our region and make Northeast Costal All Conference team.
After high school I hope continue playing by earning my way into a college program. I'm looking for a school and program that will help me grow both as a player and a person. I started playing basketball at the age of six and love everything about the game including the workouts, the competition, my teammates, and challenge of knowing there is always somebody out there better. After I'm done playing, I’d like to go into coaching.
Outside of basketball I enjoy playing competitive beach volleyball, water sports, boating and being with family and friends.
