Personal Statement

My goal is to continue my education after high school, and I see basketball as something that can help make it happen. Basketball is more than just a game it's my way of life in more ways than one.  I don't have any blood brothers but I have gained some great brothers on the court.  We work out together, we compete against each other and with each other, but then I separate myself.  I go to the gym to work on my skills.  I study film to work on my game and broaden my IQ. To make it to the next level that means you have to do something to separate yourself from others; to me that means doing what I need to do in the classroom, on the court and at home. My father told me don't do things that will make me say "I wish I did this and I wish I did that".  I take that as don't take things for granted my family, my health, school, and basketball.  I value my family because they are my support.  I take care of my body and do the little things after running up and down the court and I make time to study to make sure my grades are on point.  My high school coach told me to do what I need to do in the classroom and everything else will come into place .

  • Next, we look at a player that simply knows how to make a strong impact with any group of teammates, Jacob Hukins Jr. He’s a smart, well-rounded guard prospect with the ability to play either backcourt position while containing his assignment, making plays for others, and scoring from all three levels. Hukins is a reliable penetrator with vision, craftiness, and an unselfish approach on both ends of the floor. Next in his development process is working on his ability to move without the ball, as it would likely make him an even more consistent spot-up threat. Coach Bernardi on Hukins: “Jacob made multiple elite passes in which he showcased great skill and feel. He played hard the entire day with purpose and aggressiveness on both ends. He showcased an ability to score on all three level with his willingness to be aggressive. Playing for a great high school team and coach with multiple high-level players, Jacob will be a huge asset. He can get more consistent with his jumper, which could improve with better shot selection. I’m super excited about Jacob as a long-term prospect.” Hukins was impressive throughout camp and has all the tools to continue tracking as a Division I prospect going forward.

  • Continuing onto a player that brought a lot of intrigue to both sides of the ball throughout camp, Jacob Hukins Jr. He’s a long-bodied wing prospect that handled the ball, created consistent offense, and showed the ability to shoot efficiently from beyond the arc. Hukins plays with a lot of energy and understands how to make his presence felt within the team concept. Next in his development process is working on improving his transition defense, as he possesses all the necessary tools to be an impact player in that area. Coach Bernardi on Hukins: “Jacob was a high-effort player with a great attitude all day today. He created offense for himself and others by using his skill and footwork. Jacob’s three-point stroke looked very good, with more repetitions will come more consistency. Hukins displayed a lot of useful skills at camp and should be able to continue steadily progressing over the coming years.

  • #129: 6’2” ’20 Jacob Hukins Jr. (Knightdale, NC) Jacob has a good feel for the game and great court awareness. He has a good attitude and very coachable. Because of his Hight IQ his camp coach was able to teach him things and he caught on really quick. He did a great job of keep the defense guessing with hitting jump shots and being able to put the ball on the floor penetrate to get guys open looks. He is a very unselfish player. Scored in double figures with 13 points in the first game. Coach Harold Cone of Jacob Hukins: “Steady ball handler and a true point guard. He did a great job of opening down open threes. He also can penetrate and dish to open teammates to get easy scores. Would like to see him get strong to do a better job of finishing through contact.”
