Marcus Schmitz '12 Recruiting Profile

My name is Marcus Schmitz, and I am a junior at Amherst Steele High School in Amherst, Ohio.  I am currently 6ft. 6in. tall and hopefully still growing some. I weigh 195, but I am going to try to increase my muscle over the summer.  On my high school's basketball team I am the tallest one, but sometimes I have to guard other team's best players regardless of height because my coach believes in my defensive ability.  I consider myself to be pretty quick and will be working on that also during the summer since I also play soccer and we need quickness as well as endurance to be successful in that.  As a sophmore I started dressing Varsity for the second half of the season and started one game of varsity during the season.  As a Junior I played only on varsity and started most games.  I was usually one of the first players on the court before practices and I was almost always the last one to leave after working on my free throws and just shooting in general.  I try to give it all I have during practices and I try to give even more during games. I take pride in my hustle plays that don't show up in the stat books, but I still am proud of them.  I am looking for a good college where I would be able to play basketball at a competitive level while also getting a good education.  I am not sure what my major will be yet in college, but I will hopefully figure that out soon.  I am open to most types of schools in mainly Ohio or the east coast.  As my brothers, who are both currently in college, have had to do, I will also need to finance my college education.  I hope to be able to play college basketball while I go to college, and I would like to play at the highest level of basketball that my skills will allow me to.  I mainly play in the center position, but I am trying to work on my ball handling skills because I know my height, as it currently is, will not be ideal for a center position.  Thank you for your time and I hope you will consider giving me the opportunity to learn from your program.
