I am incredibly grateful and thankful for the daily opportunity I have to work hard and mature who I am as a person and as a basketball player this Senior year. I have been extremely blessed to have height and other unteachable talents. But if my skill stopped there, I wouldn’t love the game of basketball the way I do. I love basketball for two main reasons: the first is because of the yearly cultivating of the physical blessings bestowed upon me. The hours and hours of work I’ve invested in my game has become part of me and that investment has become a habit. Now, when someone asks me if I want to play in college, I respond firmly in the positive because I cannot imagine my life without that repetitive cultivating of basketball. The second reason I love the game is because of the true TEAM I have. I have been so blessed to be a part of the Marion Hawks because of the unified family we have. We don’t have much height and girth compared to other teams, but we play with such passion for the game and unity for each other that countless teams have complimented us for it. We, the Marion Hawks, don’t just talk the easy talk of brotherhood, love, good sportsmanship, and selflessness, but we walk the adversity-filled walk, knowing that the most influential season we will ever have, is defined by what we as teammates will overcome together, not so much how many games we outscore the opposing team.
And so, as I search for a college to continue my basketball career at (the cultivating of my basketball and personal life) I am looking for a team who doesn’t simply wear a word on their jersey, but who actually lives it and is committed to it, reaping the benefits and consequences it brings. One thing I have learned from homeschooling is that one of the best ways to learn and grow is through a mentor who is beside me along my journey and who desires and has vision for the best of me to come forth. Therefore, I also seek coaches and teammates who will provide mentorship for me.
