My name is David Manios, I fell in love with the game of basketball at the age of 5, by the time I had turned 10 I became solely focused on the sport, spending hours honing my skills and trying to perfect my craft wherever and whenever I could, from my basement to my driveway. I started varsity as a star sophomore at a Division I school. Before my junior season started, I tore my ACL during practice and missed the entire year.
I didn’t envision the injury and never asked why me, but I appreciate all the highs and lows and I viewed this as a new challenge and opportunity. I had surgery December 23rd, 2021 and started rehab four days a week beginning in January and continue today. I have always considered myself to be a hard worker and this challenge made me work even harder and by the end made me into a stronger person both physically and mentally and increased my desire to play at the collegiate level.
After 10 months of therapy and strength training, I was voted captain of the team. I started playing again in mid-November and started the first game on November 29th. After not playing any basketball in over a year, practices and my games have been my source of preparation. I have not missed a game or practice this year, while the season is three quarters of the way completed, I am now starting to get back to me.
Throughout my years in high school, I managed to maintain a 4.3 GPA and am a member of National Honors Society and a member of other clubs such as FCCLA, HHServers, Class Rep, and more participating in volunteer work involved with the school and the community organizing and planning key events as well. Academics has always been important to me and I wish to enter into the field of political science with an eye on law. I have always worked hard and will continue to work hard as I hope to have the opportunity to fulfill my dream of playing collegiate basketball as I prepare for my future career path.
