I carry a backpack everywhere I go, and its contents tell a lot about who I am. Several backpack items come and go depending on where I am headed for the day, but 3 things remain constant; a bible, basketball, and basketball shoes. You never know when you might find a pick-up game!
I enjoy playing basketball more than anything I do during the day. I like it more than going fishing, and that is saying something because I love the outdoors. I believe enjoying what you do in life is important, but more importantly is asking yourself the question, "Are you a leader in how you do it?" I use the bible to answer that question.
As the Captain of a young basketball team last year, I knew I needed the best out of each player on the court. I learned how each guy dealt with stress and situations on the court. As a point guard, it was critical that I set each player up for success. Sometimes that meant having meetings off the court as well. I knew I had to earn their trust. I did that by being reliable and working harder than everyone at practice and during games. I showed up for practice early and left late. I made sure the younger guys had a ride when needed and knew they could ask me for help.
While we didn't win all of our district games, our season was a success. We were able to make the play-offs as a small, young team in a very competitive district. I am proud of what the team accomplished last year and am looking forward to finishing strong my senior year. We have some unfinished business to take care of, and I am preparing for that now in the off-season.
I want to continue playing basketball throughout my college education. I make good grades and will continue to strive for that excellence while majoring in Biology.
Finally, I am a team player and will do whatever I need to for the team's success. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best Regards,
Aaron Marks
