As a youth, I began competing in sports at the tender age of 4. Swimming, soccer, basketball, and track to name a few. Of all of these, basketball was my choice as front runner. When I was younger, I was always the tallest on my team but never the best. There were many points to criticize about my game, and there was constantly someone who was "better" than me. Because of my height at the time, I may have even been a bit "clumsy". These things have resonated in my mind and have helped to influence my game all the way to the present. Despite these things, I was resigned to push my self to a higher level which has helped to mold my competitive edge. Now, I experience joy every time I step on the court. I find even more joy helping my team succeed and making the players around me perform to their potential as well.
Fast forward to high school, going to state for track as both a freshman and a sophomore was a great experience for me. It gave me the confidence booster I needed to believe I was physically capable of anything I wanted to achieve. Although I only placed 5th and 6th in my respective sprint events, it really boosted my morale to be able to hold my own against juniors and seniors who were bigger, faster, stronger, and more experienced than me. Music has also been a very influential part of my life. I have played piano for 11 years and I also sing in our school choir. Piano has really thrust me to my mental limits and has taught me to persevere no matter the challenges. I would like to attend a school that will challenge me both academically and athletically. My tenacity, work ethic, and leadership ability should prove to have a positive impact on your team.
