Personal Statement
Hello,
I'm Ethan Murphy and a sophomore at Champlain Valley Union.
I discovered a love and passion for basketball around the 2nd grade and have been playing ever since. My grandfather and parents have been the ones who have inspired and helped me throughout the years. I became interested in basketball because my grandfather always talked about it and we watched it on TV. After being introduced to the sport, I wanted to play and experience it.
I have learned many things through basketball and the main thing is that you need confidence. This is because through basketball I learned that without confidence in yourself, and others, it is very hard to accomplish your goals and support your team. I also learned that you need a strong mentality to play your best. When you don't want your defender to score, or when you don't want to lose, mentality plays a big role in getting things done.
My academic goals for high school are to achieve a 3.3 or higher GPA over the next four years. I know that getting good grades not only pays off in basketball, but also in my future.
One obstacle that I have overcome is lack of confidence. I used to only think of myself as a 3-point shooter and nothing more. I was scared to drive to the basket and I was afraid of getting in trouble for running a play incorrectly. I overcame this by realizing that if I never attempted to drive to the hoop, I would never be able to improve my game to the fullest.
Some unique skills/characteristics I have are: loyalty, dedication, trustworthy, caring, and dependable. I am also adaptable and open to new things, such as trying new sports or meeting new people.
A couple of fun facts about myself - my favorite food is anything from Chipotle; in the past I have played soccer, baseball, volleyball, and snowboarding; my grandfather coached a PRE-NAIA 3 basketball team in the 1980s; and I walked over 180 miles in two weeks on the "El Camino" trail in Spain with my father.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and learn more about me. I hope to connect with you in the future.
Regards,
Ethan
