Personal Statement
Perseverance, integrity, and hard-work. These are the three characteristics that I have developed over the past five years. I know that there are 1,000s of individuals who have the goal of attending college to play a sport. I am no different from that perspective and my sport is basketball. However, where I am different is that it is not just about basketball. While I absolutely love the game itself, I love what it continues to teach. After spending 4 years at Dematha Catholic High school, playing on all three levels (Freshman Team, Junior Varsity, and Varsity) , and even being part of the WCAC championship team during my Senior year, I learned the importance of teamwork and never giving up. While there, I had to work hard for every single minute of playing time and I was never deterred. I learned the value of being an encouraging teammate and how to support all of my team members. And, when we won the championship, it was a win for a us all (not one person); making me even more proud to be a part. Therefore, when I graduated with my high school diploma but did not get the scholarship offers that I thought I would get, it simply made me work harder and I've remained determined to show the world that I am valuable; on and off of the court.
Since graduating, I elected to attend Hargrave Military Academy's wonderful Post-Graduate program. It is here that I continue to get the opportunity to contribute to another great team. At the same time, applying the values that I've learned from my mother, I am an honors student and valuable member of the team. So, why should you take a chance on me? Because what you will get is a student-athlete that will NEVER quit, will always give you 100% on-and-off of the court (regardless if I play 1 minute or 30 minutes), and will represent your program and school with the highest level of integrity.
