I am Maxwell Tutas and this is my Senior year at Sheboygan North High School. Over the past 3 years as a high school student, I have had the opportunity to develop as a student athlete through the guidance of my parents, teachers, coaches, siblings, peers and teammates. Through this development, I have excelled academically and athletically. I have been privileged to be actively involved in Sports for a majority of my Life. I also have developed an interest in sports to the point that I am looking to pursue athletic performance at the collegiate level. Since I was young, My dad has been a coach for a variety of sports for a long period of time. I also have been influenced by my mom, siblings, relatives and coaches throughout my life. They have demonstrated to me what it means to work hard, care for others and be a role model to those in the school and in the community.
I have had the opportunity to be around competition since I was two years old. As my dad and my older brother have been involved in football, basketball, track among other sports, as well as my sisters to which they competed in Basketball ,Volleyball and Track. I have also had the opportunity to attend their practices, camps and sporting events for my dad, siblings and relatives since that period of time as well. Yes, I am a coach's kid and proud to say that. This has provided an opportunity to grow academically, athletically, socially and emotionally by competing in sports. Being a multi-sport athlete has given me the opportunity to develop my organization skills as well as time management, develop relationships and friendships throughout the city, state and country.
Sports have allowed me to become the person I am today. I have competed on the football field, basketball court, track and baseball. This has driven me to be the best I can be in the community, classroom, and the competition surface. By participating in sports I have developed the courage, commitment and caring attitude for others as well as myself. Sports can be the gateway to special things as long as you commit yourself to doing what is right. Commitment in the weight room, speed and agility and developing fundamental skills, as well as achieving in the classroom, will make it all worthwhile.
I have had to overcome my hearing loss over 15 years, as I was diagnosed when I was four years old. Prior to that, I got along with reading lips and being able to communicate because of this. I am dual hearing impaired as both ears have a percentage of loss. Over the past five years I have made great strides academically to overcome my disability. I have also become an advocate for myself in and out of the classroom, so much that I am using a sign language interpreter for my athletics and extracurricular activities. I have also taken up American Sign language for my benefit as well as others who may need assistance. Socially, I am very dedicated to my academic development and am performing higher than anyone has ever thought. I will not stop as I want to perform even higher. I was not always accepted in some circles as I was seen as being deaf and handicapped. I was picked on several times in my early years in the school setting, until I was able to demonstrate my athletic ability and drive to overcome my disability. I wear hearing aids on a daily basis in all academic settings and the competitive arena. With the aides and the assistance that I have gotten from a lot of people, it keeps driving me to be the best I can be. Now, I am seen as being just another kid. Besides that, other hearing impaired kids see me as a role model and adults are impressed when they see me in the community and compete at sporting events.
Over the years, I received a presidential athletic award as well. My parents, administrators, coaches, teachers, fellow students, and my deaf and hard of hearing teacher have guided me and driven me to work hard and excel. I am very thankful for their assistance and encouragement.
My goal is to pursue a degree in Sports Performance /Exercise Science at the collegiate level. I would also like to compete at the collegiate level in basketball. Using my talents and academic ability will allow me to commit to a program that best fits my personality, academic interests and allow me to use my athletic ability. Before I pursue the degree at the collegiate level, I want to enjoy my time in high school with friends, teachers, coaches and family. My goal is to keep up my academic improvement and do the little things that make big things happen in the competitive arena. I would also like to help in the community by volunteering and inspiring youth of all ages.
I am looking for an institution that is the right fit for me, where I can use the talents I have developed in the classroom and on the competition surface.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement and feel free to contact me at any time if you wish to find out more about me. My number is 920-287-2575, and my email is [email protected].
