So many people in my life have influenced who I have become, from my family, to coaches and teachers. They have instilled determination, perseverance and bravery, which have become defining qualities about me. After watching David Boudia and Steele Johnson dive the summer 2016 Olympics, I was hooked. I had briefly taken gymnastics classes and was on a trampoline team for a year, and I felt the skills I learned would help me in diving. My mom signed me up for a local diving clinic and have loved the sport ever since. Until diving, I had always struggled with commitment. Sports I participated in came easily to me, but my interest would diminish after a little while. Diving has been so different; it has built my confidence, highlighted my love for competition and desire to perform well.
I have so many academic goals to pursue throughout high school. I want to continue taking honors and college-bearing credit classes and be one of the top students in my class. I was recently inducted into the National Honor Society & World Language Honor Society. I plan to continue in selective choral groups, perform in my school musical productions, and improve my diving skills as part of the varsity team. I decided to take the SAT during the spring of my sophomore year, so that I would have a 100% complete NCSA profile. This would allow me to see which universities/colleges are a high percentage match for me. I am proud that I achieved a score of 1330 and plan to take the exam again in March with a goal of reaching 1400. In college, I aspire to excel academically, while competing on a varsity dive team. I know time management will be important and staying on a schedule will help me be successful.
Obstacles are inevitable, and I have been very lucky to not have any major challenges in my life. With regards to diving, my local AAU team practices 2-3 times a week, but we only have 1M boards. I just recently started practicing with the Marlins Dive Team in Greenwich, CT. It’s a long drive for my parents, but the benefit of training on 3M once a week is worth it! I have minimal practice on platform; geographically, there just aren't facilities available. This past summer I attended a dive camp at The University of Texas at Austin, where I was able to train on all board levels and get exposure to new coaches and technical styles. I absolutely loved it at the camp and cannot wait to see what this school year has in store for me!
