My family has always said that one of my first three words was “ball.” I have had a passion for sports including golf, football, basketball and baseball ever since I can remember. Golf has always been a big part of my life. I love spending time on the course with my grandfather, dad, and brother doing the thing we love most. On the course we challenge each other, laugh and work to better ourselves.
I started to take golf more seriously in eighth grade. I decided that this would be the sport that I would pursue for high school and into college. I played in some local tournaments and was motivated and ready for my freshman season, but then just a little over a week before tryouts, I was in a dirt bike accident. I sustained a puncture wound to my right calf muscle. This was going to be a challenge. I tried out using mostly my arms and my right leg. I worked at modifying my swing and was able to make the Varsity team. The healing for this injury was a process, but I do feel that it made me stronger physically and mentally. I had to think about every swing, have enough endurance for walking, and still be able to perform. I was able to place third in the Conference and we made it to State as a team.
Over the past couple seasons, I learned how to be a leader. I helped my teammates come together as a team, by helping them fix their weakness and make it into a strength. I have learned to stay disciplined through all of the boring drills because they will help me in the long run. A lot of people don’t want to do those drills or wake up to work out before school, but at the end of the day you have to work hard. So, by learning and applying these aspects to my everyday life it has helped me mentally and physically. I really just want to wake up and get a little better each day, and over time that adds up.
