My name is Kaden Tyner, and I am a Senior at Wamego High School class of 2025.
My number one collegiate goal is to obtain a college degree. This is extremely important to myself and my family. I have of course dreamed of playing golf at the collegiate level for as long as I can remember. My father loves to tell people that I have had a golf club in my hand since the day I was born.
Golf in my family is a family tradition to say the least. My grandfather (Tim Tyner) had my father (Adam Tyner) playing as soon as he could walk. He was and still is a very accomplished golfer. Played varsity 1 man all through high school and went on and played at the collegiate level. My grandfather lives and breathes golf as my father and I do. He still plays golf competitively all over the Midwest. He has been on the board of directors for Central Golf Links for over 10 years. He is also a certified rules official for the USGA. So, as you can see, this dream is a family dream, and it continues to fuel my desire to play and practice daily. I would love the opportunity to be a part of a collegiate program that will push me to become a better golfer and a better person.
Fun fact, I actually just started playing golf competitively in my junior year of high school in 2023. It had always been my dream to play collegiate baseball. Unfortunately, during my sophomore year, I tore my UCL while pitching. While I was recovering from this injury I found my love for golf. I was instantly hooked! As my father always tells me, as one door closes, another door opens! My love for golf has grown daily and I’m absolutely consumed with it.
Even before I found my love of golf, I have always been around it. I have been employed by Wamego Country Club since I was 13 yrs old. I started off as a cart boy and now I'm currently on the greens crew. During the summer I’d go to work every day at 6:30am and work till 2pm. I feel that this job has allowed me to learn more about golf by increasing my knowledge of the course itself. In my free time I love to spend time with my family and friends, hunt, snow ski, wake board, fishing and traveling. I have played football my entire life. But recently I decided it was time to give it up and focus directly on golf and pursue my dreams.
As I said, last year was my first year of playing high school and competitive golf. I was a member of our high school varsity golf team and played in every varsity event on the schedule. I won my second tournament ever shooting a 74. I qualified for the 2024 Kansas 4A State Championships and placed 21st overall. Our team won the 4A State Championship Team Title. I had 10 golf tournaments during the 2024 golf season and came away with six top 10s, 3 top 20s, and 21st. Of that a 1st place, 21st at State Championships and 2nd at League Championships.
Putting in the work has never been an issue. I play and practice daily and very often multiple times a day. I am very blessed to have parents that have always been willing to sacrifice their time and money to give me every opportunity available to me. I am 100% committed to golf and my education and would love to be able to show them that their sacrifices have paid off.
I believe that my honesty, hard work, friendship and passion have allowed me to become a leader and earn 1 man on our team. I am willing to go the extra mile in the classroom as well as on the course.
Thank you for your time,
Kaden Tyner
