First off, let’s cover the academics. I am very successful sophomore high school student, where my Grade Point Average (GPA) is maintained at a very high level. My favorite subject is mathematics. In regards to high school athletics, I am an active participant with the golf program and play for the high school team. I’m also a very talented badminton and volleyball player. I play on both school teams for those sports. My plan is to maintain a very high GPA, continue to excel at different sports to ensure progression in different skills, and also benefit from the life-lessons that individual and team sports provide me.
Outside of school, this is where it all happens for my golf development. Over the last 3 years, I’ve been able to accelerate my development by dedicating a huge amount time towards practice. During the 2016 season, thanks to mom and dad, it was the first opportunity to be followed by a full-time coach. Being able to receive instruction throughout the season has been very beneficial. As well, what I find very important is that I was able to successfully establish a student/teacher relationship. My coach has learned lots about me. And vice versa. I find that this relationship has raised my maturity level. I plan to continue to work with coach Mike Kennedy during the 2018 season, and remain committed to establishing myself as a very coachable junior golfer.
Being 6’2” (165lbs) at age of 16, combined with a huge investment of practice time and coaching, has allowed me to start achieving longer distances while maintaining precision. In today’s golf world, distance has become important, basically a pre-requisite. My physical stature and athleticism should allow me to continue to develop and optimize this aspect of my game.
Putting distance aside, I continue to work very hard at developing a razor-sharp short game. My practice routine (indoor or outdoor) is structured that at least 60+% of my time is invested in chipping and putting. At home, I use my parent’s home-theater as a chipping and putting studio. I realize and have fully accepted that the short game will be key to allowing me to separate myself from the rest of the pack and catapult me to the upper echelons of the junior rankings.
Through a serious reflection with my parents, we are building a plan that hopefully will allow me to complete a college/university degree in the field of criminology, while in parallel, developing as a competitive college golfer. I truly believe I have the character and motivation to achieve both of these goals, using the NCAA path. Lots of sacrifices lie ahead to achieve these goals, but I recognize these and plan to work very hard so I can in a few years, attend a college that will give me the opportunity to study at their facilities and that will give me the chance to represent their elite golf team.
