Personal Statement

Hi my name is Tristan Zhang and I aspire to be a professional golfer. My collegiate goal is to get into a strong golf school to be able to improve and compete with the best golfers in America. I also have dreams of ascending to the greatest stage of golf, the PGA Tour. Starting golf at the age of 8, I know that I need to work harder than everyone else who have already been playing competitively since a younger age. What sets me apart from the others is my immense motivation to improve. I am driven by an unwavering passion for this amazing sport and a relentless determination to succeed. This fuels my daily commitment to working hard and my long-term goal of mastering the game. On another note, I know when to be disciplined with my studies and academics. Growing up practicing piano and having little to no free time, I know how to manage my time and how to distribute a fair amount to both academics and to fuel the golf grind. On top of that, I have a very friendly personality and I get along with others very well. I consider my coach both a mentor and a friend. I would be a great candidate for a team because I my perseverance to succeed and my cooperation to my teammates with help both me and them improve rapidly. Another great trait that I have is that I learn really quickly. My coach compares me with a robot because every time we work on my swing and apply some swing changes, I work so hard on it that by next week, everything he told me will be fully applied. Outside of golf and school, I’m also passionate about game development and entrepreneurship. I recently released the alpha version of my game to the public and I’m committed to balancing my time properly between golf, school, and entrepreneurship. Golf is still my top priority, and I believe my work ethic and time management in both areas make me a stronger, more focused athlete. By fostering a collaborative and supportive environment, the coach, the team, and we will work efficiently together to achieve the best possible outcomes. I'm excited to see how I can contribute to your team!

  • Camp/Event
  • NFJG First Coach Junior Amateur
  • 1/02/25 to 1/03/25
  • (78, 70) Recognized a pattern. I would often play less-than-optimally in the first round of a tournament, proceed to hit the practice area after the round, then fire a low score the next day. I'm implementing a checkup list, with positions I want to see and skills to practice every day, making sure every part of my game is where I want it to be. It also will give me more awareness of my own game, allowing me to make day-to-day adjustments.
  • Camp/Event
  • CJGA World Junior Challenge
  • 12/28/24 to 12/30/24
  • (78, 74, 68) Learned how to deal with long waits such as rain delays and gave me a taste of the 60s. Placed T5.
  • Camp/Event
  • Orlando International Amateur
  • 12/20/24 to 12/22/24
  • My First Amateur Tournament. Was a poor ball-striking week on a tight course, shooting 75, 86, 77 and placing 25th. A great experience and beginning to understand my game on a deeper level. Mental aspects are seeing great improvements, directly correlating with short game results. First tournament where I gained strokes in short game and putting all three days.
