Personal Statement
I started playing golf when I was 5 years old. It all began in the backyard of my house where I saw my dad practice every day , and with that, a great excitement and curiosity aroused inside me for this game. One day he took me to the range to hit some balls and right off the bat he noticed I had some natural talent. Later that week, I started taking lessons with Carlos Crespo, my current coach, and from then on I fell in love with this great sport. My dad helps me a lot with the psychological part of the game, teaching me how to stay positive through any situation and how to play without fear.
This sport has taught me many values that I use not only in golf, but in life, such as honesty, sportsmanship, discipline, commitment and leadership. However, I feel that I grew most as an athlete and as a person when I found myself in a bad slump with my game right after Hurricane Maria hit the Island. At that time, I learned that being patient, disciplined, committed and never giving up are the only formula to solve tough situations.
I've had the pleasure of being a 3-time member of the PR Junior National Team and a 2-time member of the PR Amateur National Team. These experiences have taught me the importance of being a good leader and team player to succeed as a team. I believe I have all the necessary abilities, qualities and values to compete at the College level and fit right in into your program. I'm looking to form part of a college that offers a good academic and athletic program, where I can grow and be challenged every day.
