Personal Statement
My name is Jared Boyer. I am from Elk Ridge Utah and will be a high school senior this year. I am very motivated to be both a good golfer and student in high school and at the college level. I have been playing golf for 6 years and competitively for 4. I started competitively in 2019 by playing on a PGA Jr. Series team club based out of the Gladstan Utah Golf Course. My teammate and I won all of our events with the exception of one and helped our team win the championship that year. That same year I tried out with the Springville High School golf team, started as a varsity player, and as a freshman shared the best 18 hole scoring average of 79 on the team. I worked hard during the offseason including 3 to 6 day a week practice sessions at a trackman studio and my hard work paid off. During my sophomore year I had 6 top ten finishes including a 2nd and a 4th on the PGA Jr. Series individual tournament schedule and I continued to carry the best 18 hole scoring average on my high school team of 76. In addition, I qualified to play in the state tournament by finishing 8th in the region and had an 18 hole scoring average of 74 over the two day state tournament. Even though I had a very good sophomore year I felt there was room for improvement especially with putting so I watched videos on great putters, like Ben Crenshaw, Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker, I continued to practice at the Trackman Studio 3 to 6 days a week. As a junior I played in 7 PGA Jr. Series events and had multiple T10 finishes and a 5th, 4th, 2nd and a 1st place finish. My low rounds as a junior were a 68 and a 66 and I finished 3rd in the region. I’ve just started the High School season as a senior, have played in four tournaments and have finished 1st twice and 2nd twice. My average 18 hole tournament scoring average over my last 4 tournaments is down to 68.75. My GPA is 3.85 and have an ACT score of 26.
