Hi, my name is Tyler Schick (Class of 2023). I’m from Sun Prairie, WI, located just outside of Madison, WI. The game of golf means so much to me. Whether I’m competing in tournaments, playing for fun, putting time into all aspects of the game, working at my local golf course, watching golf, or co-founding the TASO Foundation and running our inaugural charity golf outing (foreautismawarenessopen.org) which raises awareness and money towards those with special needs - anything golf, I love.
Passion, work ethic, and effort are all words I’d use to describe my attitude and love for the sport. I’m constantly working on my craft - from reading books about the mental game, to putting and chipping, to full swings and shot shaping, to bunker and trouble shots, to course management skills - I love all of it. I especially appreciate and enjoy the competitive aspect of golf. Competing at high level tournaments, with my friends and teammates during the summer, or against myself every chance I get are all things that I use as motivation to become the best golfer I can be. Golf is particularly special because it’s a constant competition against myself, which is something that drives me to constantly work hard to improve. It’s just you, the ball, and the course. I believe in the 1% better mindset, as I’ve seen it work wonders in my own game. I routinely practice nearly every single day, year-round, including regular lessons with my swing coach. Consistent practice is essential and over the past couple years I’ve 100% committed myself to becoming a collegiate golfer. I have seen this approach take my game from a 25 handicap my 8th grade year, to a 5 handicap my 9th grade year, to a 2 handicap my 10th grade year, to scratch my 11th grade year. My goal and expectation is to continue this trend with maximum effort to get better each and every day. Once I combined my work ethic and competitiveness with my passion and love for the game, my results reached all time highs. I’m excited about my future and don’t have any intentions of slowing down!
I bring that same passion, work ethic, and effort to the classroom. I work incredibly hard in my academics, which includes taking several honors and AP classes. I am very proud of my 4.0/4.0 unweighted GPA and my current #1 class ranking. I have also been highly successful in my clubs and extracurriculars and appreciate opportunities to make a difference outside the classroom. I will continue to work hard to maintain and challenge myself in my pursuit of academic excellence to set myself up for a fun and rewarding career and lifestyle.
I would love the opportunity to play golf at the collegiate level, which is a goal I’m consistently working towards to achieve. I am looking for a University that allows me the opportunity to pursue a degree in the fields of business, finance, economics, technology, and/or sales and marketing. I’m also intrigued by a degree related to the golf or sports industry. It’s also really important to me to attend a University that has a team and coaching staff with the same passion and love for the sport, and who will help drive us together to improve each and every single day!
