Personal Statement

Hi, I'm Cooper Bjerke and I've been golfing since I was two years old.  I have had the dreams of playing golf at a collegiate level for as long as I can remember.  A love of golf came naturally from growing up around golf courses my entire life due to my dad being a PGA golf professional.  I am fortunate to have the support systems in place from my parents.  My dad has a plethora of knowledge of the game and mechanics, and has been helping me improve my game my entire life. My mom as a business owner has instilled in me the importance of hard work and dedication, and has been integral in helping me build my tournament  play.

What I enjoy about the sport of golf is the challenge of the game from one day to the next that creates the inner drive to continually work to improve my game.  I like that the sport of golf allows me to contribute individually to a winning team goal.  Golf is a sport of honesty, integrity, patience, and confidence.  These are all traits that I can take from the golf course and apply to my personal life. In addition to golf, I enjoy freestyle skiing , water skiing, fishing, and being outdoors. Golf and my activities of interest have helped me to build patience and has helped me to become the confident athlete that I am today.  I know I will be a successful team player in the game of golf.

  • Mike Schnarr Boys Championship
  • 8/26/24 to 8/28/24
  • Blackhawk Country Club is an exceptional course featuring extremely fast greens, narrow fairways, and plenty of hazards, which create a challenging risk-reward dynamic. A poorly executed shot can turn a potential birdie into a struggle to avoid a double bogey. Despite the tough conditions, I performed excellent. In the first round of the three-day tournament, I shot an even par 72, including 6 birdies with 4 of them coming in succession, placing me in the top 8 out of over 90 players. In the second round, I carded a 76, 4 over par, despite a challenging day that included a quadruple bogey from hitting two consecutive tee shots out of bounds and a double bogey due to a poor lie. Despite these setbacks, I made the cut and advanced to the final round, where I struggled with my worst round of the tournament, shooting a 77, 5 over par. Over the three days, I finished at 9 over par, which earned me a tie for 14th place out of over 90 competitors. This tournament was particularly grueling due to the extreme heat, with the first two days exceeding 105 degrees and the third day reaching over 98 degrees.
  • Camp/Event
  • Junior Tour #46 - Wausau CC
  • 7/29/24 to 7/29/24
  • Wausau Country Club is a narrow course with numerous trouble spots that can significantly increase a player's score. It demands precise tee shots and meticulous green reading due to its steeply sloped greens, which offer little forgiveness for poor shots around the greens. Despite the challenging layout, I managed to shoot a 75, 4 over par, securing a top 3 finish out of a field of over 30 players.
  • Camp/Event
  • Players Tour - GC's of Lawsonia
  • 7/23/24 to 7/24/24
  • On the first day, all competitors tackled the links-style golf course, which played long and was significantly impacted by the exceptionally windy conditions. Despite the challenging weather, I managed to perform well, carding a 76, 4 over par. In the second round, we shifted to the Woodlands course, which is narrower and presents more opportunities for trouble. The weather remained challenging with light rain showers and persistent wind. Despite these difficult conditions and the demanding layout, I scored a 78, 6 over par. This solid performance earned me a spot in the top 20, finishing tied for 18th out of over 70 players.
  • Camp/Event
  • 2024 College Showcase
  • 7/07/24 to 7/08/24
  • On the first day, the extreme winds and challenging conditions, due to the course's proximity to a Great Lake, made play particularly tough. I shot an 82, which fell far short of my expectations. However, on the second day, I adapted to the course and the rough conditions much better, resulting in a 76, 4 over par. This improved performance allowed me to secure a spot in the top 20 out of over 90 competitors.
  • Camp/Event
  • Junior Tour #18 - Trapp River GC
  • 7/01/24 to 7/01/24
  • I played exceptionally well in this tournament, shooting a 70 and finishing 3 under par with 6 birdies and 3 bogeys. It was a standout performance and a significant breakthrough after my previous slump.
  • Camp/Event
  • The Dells Junior Golf Championship
  • 6/24/24 to 6/25/24
  • This was one of my initial tournaments, and it marked my first attempt to overcome a slump. Although I fell short of my expectations on the first day, managing to salvage an 81, I turned things around in the second round. I played more like my usual self, shooting 2 over par and finishing with a 74, which placed me in the top 20 out of over 60 competitors.
  • Camp/Event
  • Wild Rock GC
  • 6/26/23 to 6/27/23
  • Camp/Event
  • Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin Boys Division 1 Sectional - Marshfield
  • 5/30/23 to 5/30/23
  • I secured a third place finish out of a field of 48 competitors, achieving a score of 3 over par with a total of 75. This performance earned me a spot in the Wisconsin HS Division 1 State Tournament.
  • Camp/Event
  • Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin Boys Division 1 Regional - Rhinelander
  • 5/23/23 to 5/23/23
  • I achieved a score of 77, and went one under par on the back nine. This accomplishment secured my third-place finish among a field of 39 competitors, earning me qualification for sectional play.
  • Camp/Event
  • Wisconsin Valley Conference Division 1 - Varsity HS Golf
  • 4/28/23 to 5/19/23
  • In the conference competition, I clinched the top spot overall. Notably, I secured a position in the top 5 for all 7 legs of the conference, emerging victorious in 3 of them. Markedly, I achieved scores below par twice, recording a 69 and 70.
