Dawson Blanchette '18 Recruiting Profile

"Winners are not people who never fail, but people who never quit." -Vince Lombardi. This attitude has helped me play at the highest level possible from Atom AA through Midget AAA. I was the Captain for the Leduc Oil Kings of the AMHL and privileged to also be affiliated with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the AJHL where I played the pre-season and five league games. Currently I play for the Mill Bay Islanders. I am a 5'11", 180lbs right shot defenceman who understands the importance of defense in my own zone, but who also likes to join the rush. The characteristics that make me a leader and a good fit for any hockey team, are that I am willing to step in front of a 90mph slap shot, or take a big hit along the boards to make a play. These are the intangibles that can't be measured in goals and assists. I believe in leading by example on and off the ice, I was always taught that character is what you do when no one is looking. This mindset has led me to be awarded French student of the year and athlete of the year. I have also maintained honors throughout my junior high and high school career. My aspirations are to play at the highest level of hockey possible, division 1 is where I set my sights, but I am prepared to play wherever is best to reach my athletic and acedemic goals. I would like to attend a school that is able to offer me an excellent education in kinesiology and allow me to balance my on ice activities.
